According to the Bible, Jesus is not merely a great teacher, prophet, or moral example. He is presented as God in the flesh, the promised Messiah, the Savior of the world, and the only way to be reconciled to God.

Here are some of the Bible's clearest descriptions of who Jesus is:

1. Jesus Is God

The Bible identifies Jesus as fully God.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
John 1:1 (KJV)

A few verses later:

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us..."
John 1:14

Jesus wasn't created. He existed before creation and took on human flesh.

2. Jesus Is the Son of God

At Jesus' baptism, God the Father declared:

"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Matthew 3:17

This means Jesus has a unique, eternal relationship with the Father—not that He was created.

3. Jesus Is the Messiah (Christ)

"Christ" is not Jesus' last name. It means "Anointed One" or "Messiah."

He is the One promised throughout the Old Testament who would save God's people.

"We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ."
John 1:41

4. Jesus Is Fully Man

Jesus became truly human.

He:

  • got tired,

  • became hungry,

  • wept,

  • experienced temptation (without sin),

  • suffered,

  • and died.

"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities..."
Hebrews 4:15

Because He became man, He understands our weakness.

5. Jesus Lived Without Sin

Every other person has sinned.

Jesus never did.

"Who did no sin..."
1 Peter 2:22

Because He was sinless, He could become the perfect sacrifice for sinners.

6. Jesus Came to Save Sinners

Jesus explained His mission clearly.

"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
Luke 19:10

He didn't come primarily to make bad people better.

He came to make dead sinners alive.

7. Jesus Died for Our Sins

The cross was God's plan to deal with sin.

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8

Jesus took the punishment sinners deserved.

8. Jesus Rose from the Dead

Three days after His crucifixion, Jesus rose bodily from the grave.

"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said."
Matthew 28:6

His resurrection demonstrates His victory over sin and death.

9. Jesus Is the Only Way to God

Jesus made one of the most exclusive claims in Scripture:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
John 14:6

The apostles echoed this message:

"Neither is there salvation in any other..."
Acts 4:12

According to the Bible, salvation is found in Christ alone.

10. Jesus Is Lord and Coming King

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended to heaven.

One day He will return.

"And the King of kings, and Lord of lords."
Revelation 19:16

He will judge the world in righteousness and establish His everlasting kingdom.

So, Who Is Jesus?

According to the Bible, Jesus is:

  • The eternal God who became man.

  • The Son of God.

  • The promised Messiah.

  • The Creator of all things.

  • The sinless Lamb of God.

  • The Savior of sinners.

  • The risen Lord.

  • The only way to the Father.

  • The coming King of kings.

Why It Matters

Jesus didn't simply ask people to admire Him. He called them to trust Him.

He asked His disciples:

"But whom say ye that I am?"
Matthew 16:15

That remains the central question for every person. If the Bible's testimony is true, then Jesus is not merely one option among many—He is the Lord who calls people to repent, believe the gospel, and follow Him.
