The Bible is one story. Though it was written over many centuries by many different authors, it tells one unified account of God's plan to redeem sinful people through Jesus Christ.

In the beginning, there was only God. He has always existed. By His power alone, He created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. He filled the world with light, oceans, land, plants, animals, and finally mankind. God created the first man, Adam, from the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of life. He then created Eve, the first woman, from Adam's side. They were made in God's image and enjoyed perfect fellowship with Him. There was no sin, no suffering, no death, and no separation from their Creator. Everything God made was "very good."

God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and gave them one command: they were not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Yet Satan, appearing as a serpent, tempted Eve to question God's Word. Adam and Eve chose to disobey God, and through that one act of rebellion, sin entered the world. Because God is perfectly holy, sin brought judgment. Death entered creation, the curse fell upon the earth, and mankind was separated from God. Every person born since Adam has inherited a sinful nature, and every one of us has willingly sinned against our Creator.

Yet even in the midst of judgment, God gave a promise. He declared that one day a Deliverer would come who would crush the serpent's head. From that moment on, the rest of the Bible tells the story of God's unfolding promise to send that Savior.

As generations passed, God called a man named Abraham and promised that through his descendants all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Abraham's family became the nation of Israel. God rescued Israel from slavery in Egypt with great power and brought them to Mount Sinai, where He gave them His Law. The Law revealed God's perfect holiness and exposed mankind's sinfulness. It showed that no one could become righteous before God by their own obedience.

God also established priests and sacrifices. Day after day, animals were offered on the altar because sin deserved death. Yet the blood of bulls and goats could never truly take away sin. These sacrifices were pictures pointing forward to a greater sacrifice that God Himself would provide.

Throughout Israel's history, God sent prophets who continued announcing the coming Messiah. They declared that He would be born of a virgin, born in Bethlehem, descend from the family of David, suffer for the sins of His people, and establish an everlasting kingdom. Century after century, God's promise remained unchanged.

Then, in the fullness of time, God sent His Son.

Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem exactly as the prophets had foretold. He was fully God and fully man. Unlike every other person who has ever lived, Jesus never sinned. He perfectly obeyed the Father in every thought, word, and deed. He proclaimed the kingdom of God, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, cast out demons, calmed storms, raised the dead, and revealed the glory of God to the world.

Although Jesus was completely innocent, He was rejected by many of His own people. He was betrayed, falsely accused, mocked, beaten, and sentenced to die by crucifixion. Yet none of this happened by accident. Jesus willingly laid down His life according to God's eternal plan. On the cross, He bore the punishment that sinners deserved. He became the perfect and final sacrifice for sin, accomplishing what every sacrifice in the Old Testament had pointed toward.

After Jesus died, He was buried in a tomb. On the third day, God raised Him from the dead. His resurrection declared His victory over sin, death, and Satan. Forty days later He ascended into heaven, where He reigns at the Father's right hand.

That brings the story to you.

The Bible says that every one of us has sinned and stands guilty before a holy God. No amount of good works, church attendance, baptism, generosity, or religious effort can remove our sin or make us right with Him. We cannot save ourselves. But because of His great love, God sent His Son so that everyone who trusts in Him can be forgiven and receive eternal life.

So how do you receive this gift?

Jesus Himself said, "Repent and believe in the gospel" (Mark 1:15).

To repent means to turn from your sin and from trusting yourself, agreeing with God that you are a sinner in need of His mercy. It is a change of heart that leads to a changed direction.

To believe means to place your complete trust in Jesus Christ alone—to believe that He died for your sins, was buried, and rose again, and that He is the only One who can save you.

The Bible promises:

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." — Romans 10:9

And again:

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." — Romans 10:13

If God has shown you your need for a Savior, you can come to Him today. There are no special words that save you and no religious ceremony that earns God's favor. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. You can come to Him right now in prayer, confessing your sin and placing your faith completely in Him.

You might pray something like this:

"Lord, I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins, was buried, and rose again. Today I turn from my sin and place my trust in You alone. Please forgive me, save me, and help me follow You as my Lord. Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and the gift of eternal life. In Jesus' name, amen."

Remember, it is not the prayer that saves you—it is Jesus Christ. The prayer is simply an expression of a heart that has repented and placed its faith in Him.

From the opening words, "In the beginning," to the empty tomb, the Bible tells one glorious story. It is the story of a holy God, a fallen humanity, a promised Redeemer, and a risen Savior. Every page ultimately points to Jesus Christ, who came to seek and save the lost. If today you have repented of your sin and trusted in Him alone, God promises that your sins are forgiven, you have become His child, and you have the sure hope of eternal life. Your story with Christ has just begun.
